July Newsletter

This has been a whirlwind of a month for us!  We have had a wonderful time sharing our slides with many of you and talking more in depth about what the needs of the Colonia are.  Hearing your feedback, sensing your compassion, and receiving your  “yellow slips” back have been a huge gift of encouragement!  Thank you!!  Our team is growing very quickly as many doors continue to open. We are sincerely thankful for each one of your acts of kindness.  We are especially grateful to God for putting you in our lives.

When we get discouraged by making zero headway in say, how we go about shipping things to Roatan, or how to set up mail forwarding internationally;  it is our faith that always carries us through.  Our faith that we are not alone in this, our faith that we are guided by the spirit, our faith that even though we have many questions and yes, even doubts, allows us to follow.   Yes, it is a strange thing we believe.  As Donald Miller in his book Blue Like Jazz- Nonreligious Thoughts on Christian Spirituality  says  “It can’t be explained, and yet it is beautiful and true.  It is something you feel, and it comes from the soul…  Much like love and beauty:  they cannot be scientifically proven, yet we know they exist.  There are many things like this that we know are true, yet don’t make any sense.  We want God to make sense and yet He often doesn’t.  At times, He does not make any more sense to me than I will make sense to an ant.”  Reassuring, huh?  Really, it is all about the simple (or not so simple in our case!) matter of relinquishing control.  Allowing oneself to trust, to love.

Of course, we were also given our brains to help us choose wisely.  Which brings us to the matter of worldly politics!  At this point, we are still planning on arriving into Roatan late November.  We are hopeful that the situation will calm down and the removal of the President will be a fresh, new start for the Honduran people.  We are watching the situation closely and will keep you posted.  If interested in learning more about this situation, we have attached an article we think is well written and fairly concise.
