A Love Story
Back in the October 2018 blog, I mentioned how our Senior Sports Court Mentor, Hector was now a married man and I promised you it was a great story that would come in a future blog. Well, today is the day!
In early 2017, we received a request from a teacher in New York willing to volunteer her time to teach English during the summer at our school, Casa de Luz. We are always so incredibly thankful for anyone who invests their time, talent, and finances into this ministry so after the appropriate vetting occurred (a process in place to protect our kids and teacher), we were happy to welcome Stephanie for a month the summer of 2017.
When the time came for Stephanie to walk up to our little blue schoolhouse for the first time, Hector was the first person she met as she waited for our then-teacher, Miss Jamie, to arrive. Stephanie and Hector would later be officially introduced at the end of the day when Jamie asked him to be her tour guide during her free time on the island. Little did either of them know that this was the first day of their love story.
During their month together on the island, their love would begin to grow as they shared their faith, talked about their families, and trusted each other with their goals and aspirations. But Stephanie would return to New York as planned at the end of her month-long service at the school.
In February of 2018, Stephanie visited the mainland of Honduras with her family, where Hector joined her to officially meet them. And that is when he asked for her hand in marriage. Their wedding day would be set for August 4, 2018.
Hector and Stephanie secured special permission from the Board to turn our beloved sports court into a wedding venue. It made complete sense that the place that Hector had invested his heart and soul over the years would be the place where he commits them to Stephanie. By the time the wedding planner finished his amazing talent of transformation, you could not longer even tell you were on a sports court but felt as if you were at a beautiful park. That day they committed their lives to each other before God.
So this beautiful love story, that started with one girl volunteering her time and talent to the children of a little blue school house on the side of a mountain, continues. Hector and Stephanie have already embarked on the process required that allows Hector to join her in New York. As the months pass, Hector continues to invest in and empower leaders on the court to ease the day of his transition when it comes. We are all trying to prepare for that day and are so thankful that God is in control and that His plan for their lives is being fulfilled before our eyes.
If you are reading this, take a moment to say a prayer for Hector and Stephanie’s marriage. Pray also for Hector as he continues to train up the next generation of leadership. And as always, pray for God’s will to be done in their marriage, in this community, and in our ministry.
With love,
Gloria and the C4C Board
