Greetings! My name is Sharon Jackson and I’m so excited that God has called me to serve with the Care4Communities mission team in Roatán, Honduras this summer.
I am a member of The Compass Church, a United Methodist Church in Selma, Indiana. I have served as the Food Pantry Coordinator at my church for fifteen years. About three years ago, I began serving internationally in Mexico and Belize. I am currently earning my Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages at Ball State University. I decided after my first international mission trip that I would allow God to lead me wherever He needs me, and it seems that at the moment, He needs me to teach in Roatán.
Roatán is one of the Bay Islands off the East Coast of Central America. I am looking forward to learning about the culture and to lending my efforts to the education of children and adults in Sandy Bay, the town where I’ll be living and working.
I am so grateful for the support of my family, my friends, and my church family as I begin this new phase of my journey. Without the encouragement and sound teaching I have received from my church over the years, I could not begin to take the first step. Our mission statement at The Compass Church reads, “Our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” I am humbled to be a part of this body of believers who take the Great Commission seriously.
I would appreciate your prayers for safe travel, for wisdom in teaching, that I will make a difference in the lives of people I have yet to meet, and for the safety and health of my friends and family who will be waiting for me in August when I return. I love you all. Thank you for understanding that what God has planted in me needs to bear fruit. To my Savior, I say, “Thank you for allowing me the privilege to serve as your hands and feet in the world.”
Please follow my journey through this blog as I go, teach, and reach.
Blessings,
Sharon
I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” -Isaiah 6:8
